iTunes is my choice of purchasing music and pretty much people know my deal with it! Price is the main thing I can buy albums,preorder them( I always buy full albums,not just the singles)and that’s the good thing not holding the actual product well that sucks! But we don’t live in a perfect world now do we!
Ummm Ok I may have made a exception and that is I bought one song years ago and that’s Big Country’s tune called In A Big Country! I had seen the video on Muchmusic back say around 1983-84 and I always dug there use of to my ears anyways making there guitars sound like bagpipes!
In A Big Country was written by Stuart Adamson(RIP),Mark Brzezicki,Bruce Watson and Tony Butler. These dudes fused there own style of rock with a sound that was traditional to there Scottish upbringing! The verses,pre chorus and chorus rock and I really dig Adamsons voice on this track. The dude brings it big time. The lyrics are real good as well…
In a Big Country,dreams stay with you,like a lovers voice fires the mountainside stay alive….
Wowzers that’s deep! Later in the song full marks for Stewie shouting out….

The band has the chops. I dig how Drummer dude locks in with the Butler on bass at the end of each verse as well drummer guy Brzezicki even slammed the drums on the Cults Love album (love the tune Nirvana) so these cats can play!

I’ve always loved this song, and it’s the bagpipes that did it for me, I think. Must be my Scottish heritage.

Yes. Both on my father’s side. My great grandparents were from Italy, and they moved to Montrose, Scotland in guess in the 1920s. My Grandfather was born in Montrose and so was my dad. My Grandfather, Grandma and kids moved to Canada in the 40s and settled in Orillia.

I’m always thrilled when someone shines a light on Big Country so thanks for this post. They’ve been one of the most important bands in my life for more than 30 years. I doubt I’ll convince you that you’ll need to get their entire catalog, I can at least push you in that direction. Their first three albums are pretty close to perfect, and 1984’s “Steeltown” has long been my choice for favorite album of the ’80s.

I don’t know, it had a piece of tape on it that said “Works!” I thought, ‘do I trust the piece of tape?’ Hm.

In the fine print it says, “This piece of tape is not a warranty”. Besides “works” is vague…I have a radio that “works”…but only out of one speaker!
Now here’s something to think on for a bit. I read that a couple Pink Floyd 8-track tapes have slightly different versions of songs. Different solos and so on. Never released anywhere else. So, does a die hard Pink Floyd fan want to track down a working 8-track player and give’r??

I would say yes they should. Any Floyd fan from back in the day could very well be used to the technology anyway. Doubt you’d ever find an 8 track-to-USB converter, though!
As for the 8 track player, it may also mean that it “works” but when you play a tape in it, it sounds like a truck down-shifting on a highway and you can barely hear the music over the racket of the machine…

I remember it being loud.
My dad made recordings of me and my sister on his 8-track machine when we were kids. I’m pretty sure the tapes are still around, at the cottage.

Most Floyd fans from the 70s are still rolling smoke and cranking 8 tracks! No doubt there!
