Well look what came out of sleaze ball gutter and caught everyone by surprise! Yup Skid Row the self titled debut that came out around this time back in January 1989 is given the Deluxe Edition status almost 30 years to the day of its initial release…
Hot off the press folks! This was just released yesterday (Jan 18th 2019)…..
I purchased the Debut in January of 1989 and so did you! My reason for checking these guys out was simple. They had on vocals a real young and skinny singer and a Canuck to Boot named Sebastian Bach and man could he sing and scream when duty calls when fronting the rest of the Skid Rows…
We all know the story of these guys right…
Skid Row as I have mentioned at various times at this blog got on all the big tours I had seen at the time.(89-91) From August 1989 to May of 1991 I seen Skid Row open for Bon Jovi (Once) Aerosmith(twice) and Guns N Rose(once) all on the debut album alone!
No wonder Skid Row sold 5 million records!
Good opening act and I’m sure they were pushing some of those ticket sales along with the headliners as well..
The debut is a slick polished hard rock album with some pretty good well written tracks. Rachel Bolan and Snake Sabo could write that’s for sure. 18 & Life was a one of those clever written tunes. Power Ballad that starts off that way but the chorus is the money shot when the song ramps up. For a single I dug 18 & Life even more so than the deliberately written I Remember You which was a little too much of a processed cheese ball track that back in 1989 (at the age of 22) I was not buying too much stock in what Snake and Rachel were trying sell me with that track.
Having said that many did like I Remember You so good on ya if you were one of those! But I prefer tunes like RattleSnake Shake with some crafty lyrics found within. See below….
Juicy Miss Lucy always diggin’ on junk
She’s on the corner talkin’ trash with the punks
Her buried treasure is so easy to see
‘Cause talk is cheap and so is she…

So there ya have it…Pretty cool Live show sounding unfixed and left alone and when I first listened to it was like I was transported back in time where Life was way simpler and music was still music and I still had all the hair on my head!
Bang bang shoot ’em up, the party never ends..
Well it did for these guys for sure…Bach went one way in 1996 and Rachel and Snake took their band the other way with about 7 Singers since than…
For the record this is the first Skid Row album I have purchased since Subhuman Race back in 1995!
It will be interesting to see where this release goes since right now iTunes and other streaming services have it. No physical product available for the Deluxe Edition of this yet but maybe in time the hollering that they will hear will be from Ladano whose Screaming for Vengeance errr make that Screaming for Physical product! We shall see…
Considering Bach was going on about none of the Skid Row albums being issued the deluxe way. This one drops out of the blue….
Does Sebastian even know? Do Snake and Bolan know or did Money Bag Jovi who is still making money off of that debut(I think) reissue it himself? Hell why not JBJ has not put out a decent studio album in decades himself so why not cash in a little bit of that investment he made in Skid Row 30 years ago.. I checked around no one in Camp Bach Or Skid Row even mentioned this release!
Anyways I thought it would be fun to post a bit of the conversation Mikey Ladano and I had about this release and the reunion maybe?
DEKE-I did it damn it(bought it!)
About time! I’d rather a physical edition but I’ll probably buy this anyway!

Man Scott I can’t even tell you how long its been since I listened to the debut from these Guys until Yesterday…
To be honest I still haven’t! Just a snippet of Big Guns (studio version) to hear how the remastered sounded.
Forever I did check out as I heard that song before and its quite good…
The live stuff is the deal and it sounds live…Good job on whoever put this together and it was available for a decent price!

Agreed…
Amazing this dropped without anyone knowing…
Wondering if they wanted to test the waters to see what the market would be if anyone would be interested in buying this..
Who knows..
Interesting move to say the least…

That is a good thought about testing the waters. I hope the demand is there. Did you listen to Harem Scarem? They have a 14CD box set coming in March. Announcement is coming in a few days.

I just listened to Eddie Trunk say that he called someone at Rhino Records yesterday and they flat out told Trunk no physical product will be available for the Debut…
Could be a B.S move who knows…I’m waiting to see what the two camps are going to say about it…
Yes I seen on FaceCrack about that Harem Scarem box set! Talk about mega and one stop shopping for all your Harem needs!

I will jump on that one. I had a ton of theirs before the stupid massive clean out years ago. I want them back now and this will be a cheap way to get them all…I hope.

Great post! I think a physical edition will come. It’s bound to. Isn’t there a Record Store Day coming in a few months? That would be a perfect excuse to release one.
Aaaanyway I recently reactivated my iTunes account so I could download that Def Leppard EP, so if left with no alternative, I’ll buy it and burn it to CD in a double case with my original.
My original was a gift from Mr Books!

Thanks Dude!
Good ol Mr Books! Great idea to burn them to CD Mikey…A physical copy without the packaging! Kinda of…
Take that Dour Goth!
Real bizarre that they wouldn’t reissue it in product form. I had no idea this was out until Olivier at Sleaze Roxx posted it..
I was like “WHUT?’
Even iTunes at first didn’t have it in with the other Skid Row albums. So I typed in Skid Row Deluxe and Bam it popped up at $11.
This morning iTunes has it with all the other Skid Row release’s….
This new released even puzzled Apple! haha

Yes I saw it on Sleaze Roxx first too.
It was a surprise release for sure…I may buy it later today. Hope they do Slave too though. Skid Row always recorded extra material. Drew Masters used to drop unreleased titles in Meat magazine

These guys were in my area a few months ago. I almost bought tickets but without Sebastian it didn’t seem the same.

I have a real hard time when these singers flip out singers as quick if you were flipping pancakes.
I have zero interest in the current incarnation but the YouTube clips I watched were a hoot as Bolan looks beyond bored….
‘Yada Yada another show Yada Yada”
Now if Bach would get back thats a different story…
Personally they should have reunited a few years ago. Who knows if anything it gets us talking about Skid Row again..

Saw them open for KISS. Didn’t really do anything for me, but I saw them. Check!
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know they opened for KISS around 1999-2000 so to be fair to Skid Row they were touring with another lead vocalist and not the original guy Bach..
That may have had something to do with it

Such a perfect American rock band! I saw ’em twice in 89/90 and they were just immense.

This is great news, I’ve been on the search for an old original LP of this for Brother Wilf for ages (‘cos he can’t have my copy haha!). This would be worth it though, for the live stuff. Sweet, thanks for the infor, the convo with Lebrain, and the heads-up on this one. I’m off to tell brother Wilf about it!

I think Mikey is gonna cave and hit up iTunes!

I talked with Brother Wilf today and he said he found a beautiful copy of the old original. He’s still interested in this re-release though…

Awesome..glad to hear that Brother Wilf scored a copy! I see Amazon has it listed at 37 bucks Canadian!

Never really listened to these guys. They were kind of big and gone just before I started getting into music. I love Bach on Trailer Park Boys though! I didn’t know he was the only Canadian. I thought they all were.

These guys had a great run. Kicking Bach out was a Dumb Ass move on their part. I totally lost interest as it was another lead singer change blah blah blah!
I will add as I have mentioned this live show is warts n all…feedback from the monitors…loud guitars/muddy Bass and Drums and Bach rips apart the joint with his pipes…
Simply put= Brilliant !

Brilliant! I only got into this one over the last few years… it’s a goody. Strange that they haven’t released a physical version, though…

It is an interesting marketing move. The parties involved have all been quiet on it which is real hard to believe…
Thinking the Record Company went ahead and did it…

Maybe didn’t feel real confident that folk would snap up the physical product, eh? That wee bit cheaper to throw out a digital only product… see what the appetite is.

Yep testing the waters ….
I will always give Skid Row credit as they were a platinum selling act and still showed up here to Tbay even after they postponed the original concert by a week….

I also like the addition of Forever. I have it on bootleg with Matt Fallon singing, they released a Bach version on the greatest hits, but it’s a song that deserves to be on an album.

I had never heard it until this release came out. It’s a very good track

This is the track list on that demo from 86 with Fallon on vocals. You can see it’s got some Skid Row classics there.
Walk With A Stranger was also recorded by Trixter many years later for an album.
01. Midnight/Tornado
02. Forever
03. 18 And Life
04. Youth Gone Wild
05. Rattlesnake Shake
06. Rescue You
07. Walk With A Stranger

Fallon’s sound is good, Bach just took that to new level vocally and octavelly.
There are a few YouTube videos out there.
