October 2022 Scores!

My pal Snowman every month  posts all his findings on Vinyl, Compact Disc, Cassettes and even 8 tracks at time’s.

I made the comment when Johnny posted his October Scores that this may be the one month I actually outscored him in his purchases.

We had a laugh and he told me to post my stuff…

Challenge accepted Sir!

Here’s John’s post and if you haven’t already give his excellent site a follow!

Here we go…

So it was off to Toronto back on October 8th with Tbone coming along as we were going to see Iron Maiden on the 11th.

Other than seeing Maiden live the other bit if business we had to take care of was scoring Vinyl.

‘Sonic Boom’ and ‘Kops Records’ were our two focal points of dropping serious cash in which we did.

It was a no brainer for me to buy vinyl but I was glad to see Tbone jump both feet in and grabbed what turned out to be 11 albums of his own!

Atta boy Old Man!

The day before we left (Oct 7th) Amazon dropped off an album at my house that was a gift from Tbone which was The Cult’s latest release ‘Under The Midnight Sun’ which is a fantastic record. What a way to start our trip the following day.

So here are the scores from ‘Kops’ and ‘Sonic Boom’ posted below..

Some more T.O finds except for ‘Skid Row’ which I ordered from Amazon.

As I mentioned earlier we were there to see Iron Maiden and of course a visit to the merch table is a must…

We also hooked up with Brent Jensen who brought us gifts including T shirts, books and for myself basically what is a demo version of Brent’s ‘Leftover People’ book before he sent the final copy off to get published. What a gift and its the only one is existence!

One other thing and that was the latest copy of ‘Rock Candy Magazine’ which I have been a subscriber since Day 1. Always a great read!

There ya have it folk’s…

Coming up..

November 12th- Record Fair

November 18th- Iron Maiden Triple LP vinyl set of ‘The Number of the Beast’ and the super deluxe box set of KISS ‘Creatures of the Night’ on (ugh) CD!

November 22nd- Headstones live in Tbay and kicking off there Canadian tour here of all places!

Muc’s All Time Top 20 Albums..

So a few weeks back I tossed out to some folks via FaceCrack to throw down what they would consider their favourite Top 20 Albums.

Some of my Peep’s got right into it( I thank you all who participated) and submitted their picks which I laid down a few rules being that you could not duplicate artists and not to include Live Albums!

Some people are just plain old Rule Breakers  and one of them is Muc  (I have known for close to 36 years! ) Ha! But I was glad he submitted his Top 20 and most of the stuff I have heard but there are a few submitted I had never heard!

With  Muc’s Top 20 I thought I would talk about all his Top 20 albums with just one or two sentences explaining them to you all……(Muc’s Top 20 is pictured below)

Muc….grow back that Mullet Dude……

Lets Do This…

Screen Shot 2016-06-04 at 4.42.30 PM

AC/DC’s “BACK IN BLACK’ – Yup with titles like Given The Dog A Bone,Shake A Leg and the greatest song ever written about Hookers(What You Do For Money Honey) we all learned life lessons from Jonno,Angus and the rest of the DC’ers!

RUSH’s “MOVING PICTURES”-What happens when you get three virtuosos(Lee/Lifeson and Peart) locked up at Le Studio in Quebec back in 1981? A bona fide all time great piece of Kinda Prog Rock that is relentless in the chops of the musicians and the songs just explode and  after one spin of Moving Pictures we all became Air Drummers thanks to Mr Peart!

BLACK SABBATH’s ” HEAVEN AND HELL- 1980 ushers in Ronnie James Dio as the new Sabbath vocalist and Iommi/Butler and Ward shift gears and deliver a  rock solid masterpiece! Neon Knights  leads off the charge and if you want your Sabbath Sludged like how it was with Ozzy you came to the wrong house…..

JUDAS PRIEST’s “Unleashed In The East- What a rule breaker that Muc fellow is. Unleashed is live so I can forgive him as this is Priest on fire before they became Turbo Lovers. Unleashed is when Priest   sang songs about Genocide and toss in a Green Manaleshi With The Two Pronged Crown while we’re at it!

THE KILLER’s ” SAM’S TOWN”-Don’t know too much about these guys but I will say that the tune When We Were Young is a great piece of written rock. Muc moves into the present time pretty much with this one…

KISS “ALIVE 2”- I will say that Kiss Alive 2( not counting the actual studio portion of it)  is the second best Kiss studio album next to the first Kiss Alive album! Money Bags  Simmons and Stanley along with Piss Tanks Criss and Frehley deliver a Sonic Juggernaut to our young minds back than and delivered of course the marketing with Alive 2 which included that real cool Live Pic in the gatefold along with booklet and  washable Tatoo’s??

MATTHEW GOOD “White Light Rock N Roll Review”-Too be honest I only own a couple of Good albums but the guy still makes it to Tbay now and then to play and still puts out albums so Kudos to him for that!

PEARL JAM “10”-When I think of 1992 ,this album  is at the top of that heap as it did lend a helping hand( along with Nirvana and others) to demolish Bret Michael’s into the foothills of his L.A Mansion crying into his Bandanna! Mr Vedder! I thank you for that!

THE CLASH “LONDON CALLING”- Even though Muc was full-out 100% Hard Rocker you can see that by  some of his picks he could listen outside the musical box and give The Clash credit as they were one of the first bands I knew of to deliver a double studio album. Train In Vain is still a real good track…..

HONEYMOON SUITE “BIG PRIZE”- Surprised to see this one here! These guys were the deal here in Canada back in 1986 and thanks to the production of the late Bruce Fairbairn, Honeymoon delivered a blistering set of Rock Tracks that even featured  Mike Ladano’s Homeboy Ian Anderson(Jethro Tull) playing some cranked up flute on All Along You Knew!

FOO FIGHTER”s “THE COLOUR AND SHAPE” – Dave Grohl  before he became Mr Everywhere  delivered a real good album and had a good knack(no pun, keep reading) for writing real cool big rock riffs that even an Old Geezer like me could relate too! Case in point,Monkey Wrench and Hey Johnny Park…

DEF LEPPARD “On Through The Night”- Yes! Classic Lepp and when Muc bought this back in 1981 I purchased at the same time Iron Maiden’s Killer’s! On Through The Night is Lepp going for the throat with nothing to lose and no signs of pouring any kind of sugar at all!

THE KNACK “Get The Knack”-Muc I think mentioned that this is his all time favourite album! Fair enough as it was jammed pack  with simple rock and real catchy tunes and a song about Sharona!

CHEAP TRICK “DREAM POLICE”- This album landed in my Top 20 as well. It’s a Sonic Boom of Epic Proportions in song structure and string selection along with Rick Nielsen’s quirkiness with a singer in Robin Zander who could belt it out made this a win win..

FLEETWOOD MAC “RUMOURS”- How many copies did this sell? 20 mill and counting? Who knows but man I think Mick Fleetwood has the coolest Skullet ever! Well Kim Mitchell pre 1990 had a good Skullet as well….

THE TRAGICALLY HIP ” FULLY COMPLETELY”-You can’t really go wrong in my estimation with the first 4 Hip albums! This is a dud free album and man The Wherewithal is an absolute blast of genius!

IRON MAIDEN “PIECE OF MIND” –Atta Boy ! Maiden deliver a Bombastic Slab O  Metal that just blew us all away! Dickinson soars vocally while the rest of the Maiden’s lay down the British Metal Law Musically! Epic comes to  mind!

SEVEN MARY THREE “DIS/LOCATION- Can’t really comment here but if Muc says so ……well its his Top 20 ….

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN “BORN TO RUN”- I can see this one here as Muc always dug the Boss! The title track sez it all doesn’t it??

SEX PISTOLS “NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS”- Ha!Muc being different but fair enough.Amazing how much a game changer this was for many people yet it sold peanuts but every rock fan knows of its existence! Bizarre….

Well there you have it my friends!

Pearl Jam/09/09/2005 Fort William Gardens/Tbay

Yup! PJ showed up! Played Tbay! In one of the biggest Blunders in Rock N Roll History I did not go! My Bad and a Rock N Regret if there was ever one!

But faithful  Stick It In Your Ear reader Robbo( whose the biggest PJ Fan I know) attended and being the Diehard he is gave me a soundboard recording of that nights show!( Stayed tuned folks as Robbo is gonna drop down some  words of PJ wisdom at this site shortly in his own Bloggo Robbo Post!)

My first thought when I dumped this show onto my iPod was the mindblower that this show was coming direct from the Old Dump (Fort William Gardens) and it was actually a recording from Tbay!

Folks! If your reading this from other parts of the world (Thanks) but seriously I can’t recall anyone doing this when they play Tbay. I know PJ record all there shows for the fans as souvenirs and what better way than to have that nights memento from the show you just seen!

I’m not even gonna bull shat anyone and announce to the  world that I know and own everything about PJ. Of course I own 10 , Vitalogy, BackSpacer and a couple of soundboard  shows….

So other than the fact that PJ is a top-notch live band I have taken some notes and gonna share some thoughts for you’s out there .

Before we proceed how about a shoutout to PJ themselves..Eddie Vedder,Stone Gossard,Jeff Ament,Matt Cameron and Mike McCready by all intent and purposes blew the doors off the Old Dump known as the Gardens that Friday Night ..

Musings and Observations From The Audio Portion..

1- PJ live is a beast and if you’re a diehard you know that right!? The Songs are played tighter than Pat Benatars Spandex circa 1981 and it’s also real noticeable that the guitars live are clean sounding (McCready and Gossard) ditch the whole Seattle mopey guitar sound of the early 90s and jam it out with a real cool tone.

2-Eddie Vedder says a few things and their classic like ” Thunder Bay is the smallest show of the tour and the hottest. By the way how the fuck do you play hockey in here?” Vedder also talks about the importance of neighbours as in Canada helping out New Orleans which was submerged in water at the time(2005) as Eddie says his own country turned there backs on their own but Tbay even sent a boat out to aid in supplies sent to New Orleans. The funniest line is  as Vedder says ” I may be getting old but I can still fuck like a jack rabbit” Ha!

3-PJ toss in a cover of the Police’s Driven To Tears which in itself is a great track and PJ plays this tune brilliantly! I mentioned this to Robbo at what a great song this was and how PJ perfectly executed it live. Robbo said a lot of people in the crowd were like “Whut??!!” Not knowing it was an actual cover tune! Robbo we are officially Old Farts!

4-Even Flow is a Monster of a track! Gone is the grunge sound of the guitars and in its place is a clean vibrant sound not if that makes sense. McCready takes over and jams a real bunch of great riffs while Stone,Jeff and Matt hold down the Fort and I  could picture Eddie hanging off the ceiling and climbing around the Gardens like he does in the Alive video. I have no idea if this actually happened….sorry i’m tripping out…..

5-Save You is a real good track! Vedder is one of the few that can drop F Bombs galore during the chorus but it adds to the song and he makes F Bombs sound classy..hahaha…Fuck You If You Only Hear What You Wanna Hear! … Ament just assaults his Bass like there’s no tomorrow!

6- Rockin In The Free World is a 8 minute jam out with opening act Supersuckers and there’s even a little fellow (Ed’s kid? ) who almost steals the show….Classic

Cool Lil Numbers….Pearl Jam/The Fixer

One of my good pals from work,Robbo who reads my blog(atta boy) and drops down some comments now and than posted on my R.E.M review how I missed the boat when Pearl Jam showed up to Tbay back in 2005 and to be honest I kick myself! I should have went but shit I dropped the ball and like I have told Robbo I kind of moved on from PJ after Vitalogy,Nuthin personal PJ Peeps of the world but hey it happens ….

What dawned on me when Robbo mentioned the name Pearl Jam was the great track The Fixer was and is! It’s one of my faves …

Let me guzzle back a bottle of Vino out of Vedders Stash and tell Ya about this fantastic track!

So my Pearl Jam collection consists of Ten(da!),Vitalogy and Backspacer(2010)and that was due to the strength of the single The Fixer!

Eddie Vedder/Mike McCready/Stone Gossard and Matt Chamberlain wrote this snappy kicker of a track and after I heard it I preordered Backspacer off of iTunes and man I was hooked!

The Fixer kicks off with guitar/drums off the hop and boom here’s Eddie singing ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah, hey hey, when’s something’s dark, let me shed a little light on it,when something’s cold, let me put a little fire on it..

Actually my favourite line of the song is when Vedders sings “If your looking for something strong ,just add Scotch to it’ hahaha…Eddie doesn’t sing that line in The Fixer I just added that line to see if Tbone was paying attention!

Man these lyrics are Brillant ..effective to the point and friggin catchy! Dig the quick time changes, the kinda solo at the end is Gold ,Love the sound of this record produced  by Brendan OBrien He keeps it  raw, live like, just like the band showed up plugged in and rocked this little bitch of a number in one take!

Kudos to PJ for stepping up and walloping me outside the noggin with a great rock track! Get it if you don’t have it…. and Crank It!
